So, it is always needed to secure that you purchase the quality item that suits your need.
When choosing high power binoculars, choose the one with the strongest magnification possible so that you’ll get clearer details of the things you observe from a much-extended distance, typically over 2 miles. Go for optics designed for long-distance viewings, such as binoculars with lens sizes that start with 10x, 20x, 30x, etc.
Why?A high magnification paired with a small objection lens size will give you a
decreased brightness of the image because the field of view gets smaller since the lens is smaller.
HOW TO IDENTIFY A BINOCULAR’S POWER?
10×50, there are always two numbers that represent a piece of binoculars. The first number (10) is the power (or magnification), and the second (50) is the diameter of the lenses. Generally, binoculars’ power ranges between 8x to 20x, but if you spot a very distant subject across your land or a sailing boat 2 miles from shore, you should opt for 16x to 20x binoculars.
For example, you will use a Celestron – SkyMaster Giant 15×70 Binoculars. To determine its objective lens size divide the objection lens size by the magnification; the answer refers to the diameter of light in millimeters of the exit pupil.
The two numbers here are 15 and 70. Fifteen refers to its magnification, and 70 as its lens diameter. Divide 70 by 15, and it will give you 4.66… or converted to 4.7. This is an excellent binocular as it passes 3 as the good average diameter of light in millimeters of the exit pupil.
SOME EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE
Although it is an exception when you have a pair of binoculars that do not follow this rule, as long as it features higher quality optics to increase brightness and image quality like ED glass, fully multi-coated lenses, and phase-corrected prisms.
The increase in weight and size is the only drawback to getting high power binoculars with a larger objection lens. This makes an ideal instrument for steady watching and not for hiking around with them all day.
Note: The Higher the Magnification of a binocular, the more difficult it is to hold steady. 16x magnification is the limit. Some people best pair their binoculars with monopod, bipod, or tripod, or have something where it can lean.
