Animal species that live in the coldest parts of the Earth

All animals require a safe and a healthy place to live. Most of them live in places that are particularly for their kind. Places where it is appropriate for them to eat, raise their young, to protect them from predators, and to live. Some examples of the habitat of animals are the rainforest, the hot places like desert, mountains, the bodies of water, and the cold and polar regions. These animals have different ways of adapting to their specific habitat.

Below is the list of animals that live in the coldest places on Earth.

Wild Yakutian Horses

These horses live in Yakutia, in the Northern part of Siberia. Yakutia belongs in the coldest places on Earth. Wild Yakutian horses are probably one of the oldest horse species in the world. They one of Siberia’s native horse breed. These horses survive with the help of their very thick fur, their overly thick skin, and because of their way of conserving their energy.

Eurasian Wolves

These wolves are found in Russia, the country with the largest population of gray wolves in the world. Wolves live in a pack, so there are probably over 50,000 gray wolves in this country. These animals like to be isolated that is why seeing them and capturing their beauty in a camera is very rare. These animals can survive the very cold temperature and are very resourceful for them to be able to live. They usually scrape the ice so that they can drink water and quench their thirst.

Polar Bears

Polar bears are widely known to live in a cold habitat. They are usually found in the Arctic. These animals are relatively large and are very strong, however, they own very small claws which allow them to move gracefully in the ice. Their very thick skin and fur plus their ability to conserve their energy protect them from the cold environment.

Musk Deer

These animals are rare to find since they like to isolate themselves in shadow forests. They are usually found in the Himalayas. The musk deer have distinct physical characteristics since their face looks like that of the kangaroo’s and their male musk deer usually grow fangs instead of antlers. As they grow older, their fangs grow bigger.

Siberian Tundra Reindeer

This reindeer is found in the Yakutia region in Siberia. It has a thick skin and thick fur to be able to survive its cold habitat. However, due to climate change and the mess humans make, these reindeer in certain species are slowly starting to be extinct. The Siberian Tundra Reindeer are decreasing in population as years pass by.

Antarctic Krill

This krill species is usually found in the Southern Ocean waters of the Antarctic. It is one of the species that has the largest population in the world. These krills are very important in the ecosystem in the Antarctic since they serve as food to penguins, whales, and other animals habiting in this region.

Siberian Salamander

Siberian Salamander is a very unique animal creature. These creatures have antifreeze-like compounds that help them perfectly adapt to survive in cold areas with a temperature of 50°C below zero. One unique characteristic of a Siberian salamander is that it can freeze itself for many years and then it would thaw and wake up just like it was newly born.

Arctic Ground Squirrel

This species is usually found in the Arctic and Subarctic regions of North America and Asia. This little animal could survive on a very cold ground with the help of its very thick fur and by hibernating. Arctic ground squirrels could also super-freeze their bodies much colder than any other mammals could do.

Leopard Seal

A leopard seal is usually found in the South Pole. They are said to be the second biggest seal that lives in the Antarctic. However, they are prey to killer whales habiting the water. One of their characteristics that makes them really distinctive is their unique coloring and pattern, and their really huge size that can reach up to 11.5 feet in length and 1,320 pounds in weight.

Canada Lynx

This species can be usually found in Alaska, Canada, and the northern part of the United States. A Canada lynx is a medium-sized lynx that has a long and thick fur that helps them survive a very cold temperature, triangle-shaped ears that has black tufts at the top, and it also has snowshoe-like paws. These animals feed only on snowshoe hare to survive.
